Trusting God with Financial Difficulties
Are you facing a trial that feels like a refiner's fire? Are you struggling with finances, health, or a difficult situation that leaves you feeling desperate and unsure where to turn? Take heart, for God is with you in the fire, even though it doesn’t seem like it, and He is using this season to refine and strengthen your faith. For over twelve years of living entirely by faith for my finances, God has never once failed me! George Muller was able to say that, even in his nineties.
Matthew 6:25-34 offers comfort and direction: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life, more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? … But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." When we prioritize God's kingdom, He promises to provide for our needs.
But be sure, God will test us in this area. He sometimes allows us to experience lack, to discipline us, or to draw us closer to Him. He wants us to learn to depend on Him fully, to trust in His provision even when circumstances seem dire. This is a process of refinement and faith building, a stripping away of our self-reliance so that we can fully embrace His sufficiency and faithfulness.
Remember the story of Joseph in Psalm 105:19: "Until the time that his word came to pass, The word of the LORD tested him." Joseph endured years of hardship, yet God was with him, preparing him for the incredible purpose He had planned. Likewise, God is using your current trial to prepare you for greater things, and especially heaven.
Throw yourself at His mercy. Cry out to Him alone and watch how He acts on your behalf. Be willing to suffer, to be made a fool, to go without. This is the path of meekness, the path of total surrender to God's will. And as you walk this path, you will discover the depths of His love and faithfulness, and you will emerge from the fire spiritually stronger and more radiant than ever before.
