141 - Laina – “How did you pray and know your wife was the right one?”

Hi Michael, I’m blessed watching and listening to your sermons and testimony. To God be the glory. I just wanted to ask how did you pray and know that Persis was the right one? I’m praying and trusting God for a husband.

Thank you,
Laina

The Burning Bush and Beyond: How God Speaks Today

Have you ever longed to hear God's voice, a clear direction for your life? We often crave a burning bush experience, a dramatic revelation of God's will. Yet, God's communication is often more subtle, a gentle whisper to our soul, guiding us along the path He has chosen.

The Apostle Paul, in Acts 20:23, confessed, "I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me." Paul didn't detail how the Spirit warned him, but the warning was clear. This reminds us that God speaks to each of us uniquely, tailoring His communication to our individual personalities and circumstances.

While God may use dreams, visions, or even a burning bush, His primary way of speaking is through His Word (Hebrews 1:1-2). As Jesus said in John 10:27, "My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me." Spending time in Scripture, meditating on its truths, and allowing the Holy Spirit to illuminate its meaning is crucial to recognizing God's voice.

A heart fully surrendered to God is essential for discerning His guidance. When we prioritize His will above our own, as Jesus taught in Matthew 6:33  "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well",  we open ourselves to His direction. This doesn't mean we won't face trials, but we can trust that God is with us, guiding us through them.

Finally, remember that hearing God's voice is a journey, not a destination. Like any relationship, it takes time and intentionality to learn to recognize the nuances of His communication. Be patient with yourself, persistent in your pursuit of Him, and trust that He will make His will known to you in His perfect timing. As Psalm 25:12 promises, "Who, then, are those who fear the LORD? He will instruct them in the way chosen for them."
