Beyond End-Times Anxiety: Focusing on God's Will, Not the World's Noise
The world is a noisy place. News cycles churn with anxieties, fears, and warnings, often pulling us into a vortex of "what ifs" and "how tos." We can become like Martha, busy and burdened, "worried and upset about many things" (Luke 10:41). But Jesus gently reminds us, "Only one thing is needed" (Luke 10:42). What is that one thing? Choosing what is best, like Mary, sitting at Jesus' feet, absorbing His peace and listening to His voice.
In a world obsessed with end-times predictions and external threats, it's easy to lose sight of the internal battle, the true "mark of the beast" residing within our own sinful flesh. We scramble for answers in YouTube videos and news reports, seeking a sense of “preparedness” and security. But true security is found not in knowing all the answers, but in knowing the One who holds them. "Do not call conspiracy everything these people call conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it. The LORD Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread" (Isaiah 8:12-13).
Jesus didn't warn against the political agendas of Rome, but against the hypocrisy and sin within our hearts. He warned against losing our first love (Revelation 2:4), against disobedience (Matthew 7:21), and against being weighed down by the anxieties of this life (Luke 21:34). He calls us to be busy doing His will (Matthew 7:21), not our own.
Like Joseph and Mary, who were ignorant of Herod's murderous plan until God warned them, we can trust that God will provide what we need when we need it. Our focus should be on actively obeying His will for our lives, not on consuming fear-filled news. "Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes" (Psalm 37:7).
Choose today to cultivate the quiet strength of Mary's heart. Sit at Jesus' feet. Listen to His voice. Find your peace in Him, and let the world's noise fade away.
